Our History

Waffles and more since '74

The Happy Cooker was first opened in 1974 serving breakfast and specialty waffles.

Through the years not much has changed. We continue to provide homemade meals from original recipes we have kept in the family for years.

We are considered a long-time icon in the town of Georgetown (going on 45 years now).

Our restaurant is located in a National Historic District, and our building dates back to 1898.

Historic Georgetown sits at an elevation of 8,530 feet (2,600 m) above sea level, nestled in the mountains near the upper end of the valley of Clear Creek County.

Although a small town today, the town was a historic center of the mining industry in Colorado during the late 19th century, earning the nickname the "Silver Queen of Colorado".

We are family owned and operated, and most of our Staff are family members as well. Our goal is to provide you with a happy dining experience.

If you wish to speak to the Owner or other family member, let us know and we would be happy to talk with you.

Enjoy your meal and experience at the Happy Cooker!

About The Owners/Management

Derek - Owner / Commander in Chef

Derek is a Colorado Native, with many years experience at the Happy Cooker. He develops and creates our awesome and consistent menu AND he ensures the best experience for our Guests. Derek was inspired by the cuisine in New Orleans, primarily the style and flavor of French foods. He insists that you try his Benedict's (origin Delmonico’s Restaurant, NY - Eggs à la Benedict), Quiche specials, and the Homemade Soups and Breads (for that real French & European touch) He is most often seen at the restaurant, hanging out in Georgetown, and running up Guanella Pass.

Lori & Mike - Owners / Finance, HR, Sales & Marketing Officers

Lori & Mike are retired beer people (Coors of course!) with 30+ years experience in Operations, Sales, Marketing, and Tasting (beer). They are responsible for the financial and marketing aspects of the Happy Cooker, as well keeping the place happy:-) They have been a part of the Front Range mountain communities for many years and love Georgetown for it’s history and culture. They are proud to be in business with Derek (we are family owned and managed). They are most often seen in or near New Orleans in the Winter, and wearing costumes at events and parades around Georgetown in the Summer
